Give According To Your Income

1ST CORINTHIANS 16:1-12

Verse 1-3

Now concerning the contribution for the saints; as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do. On the first day of the week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up as he may prosper, so that contributions need not be made when I come. And when I arrive I will send those whom you accredit by letter to carry your gift to Jerusalem.

Christians in Jerusalem were in great need, owing to a famine in their land, the churches in Corinth, Galatia and Macedonia raised money to assist them.

Paul urged them by letter to give according to their income {verse 2} meaning that the rich of the church should give big contributions or offerings while the poor to give small offerings.


Currently many are faced with hunger, we are asked to make contributions to help them deal with the situation, as children are dying.


How often do you contribute? Do you think it is necessary to give offerings to help those in problems?

We should always assist the needy like orphans and those living in famine places, stricken by disasters or those who are unable to work due to being crippled. But there are those who have bad intentions, they don't want to work since they are lazy and pretend as being needy in order to be given money by others. Such people should never be assisted.

It is a permanent solution to teach a person how to fish instead of giving him/her fish.

Giving is actually good that is why they say blessed are those who give than those who receive, when we give more is added to us. The only problem is that people give not because they are willing but to get higher seats in the church and as a show off. We should give like the way that woman gave a coin. We should pay as we will because Jesus said God should be given things that belong to him.

In as much as I earn, I try not to forget giving Go's part. I know it is my duty and responsibility to give thanks for the blessings I got in order to receive more. I however am not sure whether my tithes and offerings are genuine or have I robbed God. What challenges is; do I have to tithe money given by a friend to me as a gift or lunch or the money my boyfriend gives me for personal use?
