How Many Years in Exile

Many tend to confuse of the exact years the Israelites spent in slavery while in Egypt, even though the Bible itself has its own mentions too, but do you know that God himself foretold indeed of the years they were to spend in slavery?


God foretold of four hundred years of exile, this was during the covenant between him and Abraham, he revealed to him that his descendant would be strangers in a land not belonging to them , where they will be enslaved and ill treated.


Acts 7:6

And God spoke to this effect, that his posterity would be aliens in a land belonging to others, who would enslave them and ill-treat them for four hundred years.

I admit that they were meant to take four hundred years in captivity but there is this issue that I had that they stayed thirty more years. Whether it is true or not let this not trouble us the good news is that those who persevered came to the Promised Land. Will be able to reach the promise Kingdom also or you will give up on it and just live life in your own way?

I also know that God promised four hundred years in the foreign land. However, there seems to be a contradiction or confusion between Exodus’ chapter 12 verses 40 and 41, which talk of 430 years of slavery, and Genesis’ chapter 15 verses 13 which talks of 400 years as told to Abraham their ancestor. We therefore need more understanding on this so that we do not end up confusing ourselves.
