What sense is it when one is wealthy and famous with all those good talks from people but with impurities in the heart? Maybe this is why the bible says that it is hard for a rich man to inherit the kingdom of heaven. Their kingdom is on earth and there will they perish with it. It is of great importance to humble oneself before the Lord and other men and be godly than to have fame but a passing one.
Naaman was a rich man, a strong man in the chariot and defeated many at war. This made him so much feared and famous. However, he had one weakness: leprosy. He was commissioned by the servant of God Elisha to wash himself at river Jordan seven times and he would be healed. Naaman was angry on him for from his native land were so many cleaner and better rivers but told him to go all the way to Jordan, a dirty and ordinary river. He however obeyed and from the first immersion to the sixth the healed not but immediately after the seventh he was whole and never a leper again!
What an amazing miracle! He followed simple instructions and never considered his reputation. He humbled himself and was healed. Why didn’t he get better after the first, second or third counts of immersion? Our God is of order and needs us to follow His orders in order to live. It is better to obey than to sacrifice.
We are urged as Christian believers that no matter what positions we hold or reputation we have in the society, we should be as humble as little children for to such does the heavenly home belong. Had Naaman ignored Elisha he would not have been healed. Had he looked at who he was then and thought of what people would say about him or the act itself, he would have suffered alone. He swallowed his pride and obeyed to his own merit. We don’t have to look around as to who is watching when we obey the Lord’s will. It therefore takes an individual to make a decision to follow Jesus and live or follow the pleasures and luxuries of the world towards peril.
Our hearts are full of sin, which are referred to as leprosy and we need to go down to Jordan River for cleansing. Therefore Jesus calls us humbly and with much love to go down on our knees, pray for forgiveness and wash our sinful garments in His blood and we shall be forgiven. We shall be free and holy again. Unholy things will never enter into the holy place of God.
We need to re-evaluate our lives, search our hearts and minds and see whether there is anything that may deprive us of the right to live with Jesus in heaven. It is a choice; a free will from God; either live or die. It is all vanity to live in pride but in the end mourn as the humbled receive their lord joyfully in the clouds.
