Did you ever know that hygiene maintenance was from the past and was ordered by God? Some of us assume that inner sanctification or holiness and freedom from sin is all that has to do with cleanliness. The physical body as well needs to be clean. It is the Lord’s temple and needs good and proper maintenance.
Poor hygiene leads to disease and that makes one not able to go out and evangelize. It makes one suffer of illness towards losing hope from God and seeking evil means of healing.
In the jungle God issued orders to Moses on how the Israelites were to carry out themselves in a life where they kept on moving yet they needed some place to take short and long calls of nature.
The bodies we bear are fragile and if we do not keep them clean we may contract diseases. The skin needs to be germfree by regular baths with clean water and soap. Our clothes need to be clean as well. Bad smell makes us ill. Males are as well supposed to get circumcised so that the fore skin is gotten rid of to avoid holding dirt under the sheath.Deuteronomy 23:12, 13
“You shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out to it. And you shall have a trowel with your tools, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig a hole with it and turn back and cover up your excrement.
To live happy one requires good health and normal body functioning. Nahaman was a famous and reputable chariot who was feared by many, including their rivalries. He however had one worry: leprosy. His skin was covered with soles but when he was commissioned by Elisha to wash his body seven times at river Jordan he adhered to the simple instructions and was healed. The simple principles of hygiene that we are given are so important, and need to be looked into to ensure cleanliness.
There are some foods as well that we are prohibited from eating by God, which if eaten make us unclean. God directed man on the types of green plants, animals and birds that are ft for consumption. For instance, pork makes one unclean. Therefore we should take heed to the word and we shall be safe.
The bodies we have are not our own, they belong to God and therefore just like God is holy we should maintain them clean and our hearts holy. We were bought at a price and should then with our bodies glorify God.
Drug abuse, sexual immorality, and all kinds of sin make us unclean. Living with stress deteriorates our health and that means we should share our distress with others for necessary advice and consolation. Being physically fit makes us live happy, a healthy and happy family is everyone’s wish and this results to good health and purity.3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.
By knowing God, His will, respecting and adoring Him in service and reading His word we are kept righteous by its wisdom. Doing what is right is best for our health and hygiene, and as well the cleanliness and safety of our souls.
