Distinctive Of Love

After stating that no act of service is valuable in God ‘s sight without love, Paul moves on to specify just what love is in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ;

“Love is patient and kind; love is not jealousy or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices at right. Love bears all things, believes all things, and endures all things.”

Suffered long does not mean that loving always entails suffering (although it often does include that) but rather emphasizes that love is patient. This means that love does not express itself through revenge or by giving up so swiftly.

Instead, love actively extends kindness to others, even those who do not deserve our grace.

The bible tells us that even If you speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, you only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If you have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and you have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, you are nothing. Even if you give all you possess to the poor, and surrender your body to the flames, but have not love, you gain nothing

What I know is that the book of Deuteronomy 6:5 tells us to love God (this is also repeated in Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27).
