Christian Giving is How to Express God's Love

Christian giving freely to those in need is one way of expressing God’s love. You need to examine yourself and see whether your character is attracting others. Some people don’t care about others. They want to satisfy their own needs. Have you ever come across someone who is selfish? Such a person believes that all the best things belong to him alone. This person may even bribe to get what he wants. He is not trusted by many since his character betrays him. The character of Jesus is different from ours; He teaches us to love others more than we love ourselves. Your selfishness denies you from receiving God’s blessing. What are your thoughts about Christian giving?

I wonder who should be helped as regards material needs when it comes to the impaired and the whole. We find people who have hands, legs, eyes and everything-no deformity, yet they beg.


Here we find that some people offer to help them even repetitively. Of course even the lame, blind, deaf or dumb have the capability of doing something generating. I was very much inspired by the Maasai woman who had no hands and legs but draws and paints using her mouth! What a great way of creativity!

This means that apart from the normal labour we understand, the crippled can use their potentials and talents to earn a living instead of living in the streets begging. As goes the saying,

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

This means that you should train such people on how they can generate income for themselves independently. You may give them something to start with so that they get the way forward.

Giving them makes them lazy, hence reduced creativity and productivity. Do you agree with this theory? Are we making street beggars lazy or helping them?

Your theory i agree with it. Giving the beggars money is not helping them this is because they will be beggars forever. Give money those who are badly crippled beyond doing anything to buy food and other things. Do not help beggars to be beggars the rest of their life.

It is through Christian love that we help our neighbors. Without love we won't care about our neighbors. Here is what Paul said,

1Thessalonians 5:4 And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the faint-hearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them.

Do you think there are people who are misusing the word help? In what ways are they misusing it and what can be done about it by Christians? I get disappointed when someone is not willing to work but prefers to be idle and request money from those who are working hard. It is a sin as a Christian to give money to people who are lazy in the name of "Help." Use your money well for you have labored hard to earn it.

I second your idea; people want to be shown love while they don’t love themselves, some people are very idle and even when allocated duty they cannot perform it but they want someone working very hard to help them, they claim that since they did not get that opportunity to get employed so they are poor. The fact is that those people who do not work should not eat, so if we are to help we should help those people who are trying but cannot make it, and instead of giving someone money better show him/her way to earn money

That is true for the desire of a poor man kills him. He only wants to reap from nowhere. His hands laze to labour and he keeps on begging from others who are toiling. There are Christians who get the word help wrong and even after they give they go telling everybody that they are the ones who helped so and so. That way God won't bless you at all.

This is a problem that some Christians and those people who are not Christians have. They help yet they want everybody to know how they helped (what amount they gave). When you help people, I mean those who deserve the help let you, God and the person you have helped know the kind of help you offered.

Matthew 6:3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

I am almost left wordless the truth that is within the words that you have shared above. You have the exact verses that people misinterpret and assume as if such like things are not in the bible. if at all you have the desire to help, do it by showing those people how to make money rather than helping them everyday which gets boring. The more you give them alms the more you are making them lazy. So better be ccareful in the mode of your help.

As much as we try to ask what life is, we will not have a common conclusion. There is a way in which God is working in balancing us. There are people who are working and no matter how working they remain to be they remain to be poor. It is not that they do not work but they are poor. Will we ever understand how God works? If God loves us why does he allow some of us to be engulfed in extreme poverty that leads to much suffering? People must understand that it is God who makes some people to be poor while others to be rich. They should not condemn people who are poor but condemn those who are lazy.

When a poor person comes to beg from you do not refuse to help that person. Open your hand to help.

Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be heard proverbs 21:13.

Help the poor it is God who created them. The poor are poor not because they choose to be so but it is God works which man should not interfere with by condemning them. God blesses the hand that gives. Do not help idlers but admonish them.
