My friend was doing it but she kept on complaining about the increments of fuel prices which made it impossible for her to increase rates for her clients.
Some of my relatives run such a business, they do say it is a good business for one to run but the problem comes when there are fuel shortages and the problem with insuring rules and not forgetting, the traffic officers who must always find a problem with your PSV so give them something (bribe).
I only know about transport of goods for example cargo, the business is very good but harassment from the police and delays on clearance of cargo from the port has heavily affected this business. A while back the poor state of roads used to be the main problem but the government is currently improving the state of our roads. Hopefully when the port is expanded, clearance of cargo at the ports will be efficient giving us good time to deliver goods to our clients.
I have never operated transport business but I have friends who run the same. They say it is a good business but depends on the staff operating it. As the boss, you may not be there to monitor the number of trips your vehicle went all day long and in that case, the driver and conductor play tricks and take much of the cash leaving you in losses. It is advisable for one to have vehicles operating on long routes with a fixed fee/charge paid by issue of receipts so that the number of trips is also fixed. This becomes fairer. However, I wish these people would manage another's business as if it were their own for it supports both the owner and the recruits.
A transport business vehicle, be it of passenger or cargo should be well maintained and regularly serviced to ensure its efficiency, effectiveness and reliability. This also allows a longer life span of the asset hence the real values of the money used to purchase and maintain it is realized.
Good relationship between the boss and employees or operators and the clients should be well maintained to boost demand and preference. Transport business is highly profitable if well run and even if fuel prices hike, the boarders are aware of that and will fit themselves in the situation though it will take some time.

I myself do not do the business but I have my uncle doing the business on long routes. He has a booking office where the office operates on receipts only . But he complains of the traffic police who take bribes on the way and the high prices of petrol which lower the business profits.
