In the recent past, wives were force to alter their maiden names by incorporating them with their husbands and not their fathers anymore. This showed that one is a legal wife of the man and is subjected to inheriting all his possessions in case he deceases. Even their national identity cards were altered.
In the current set up, the illusion is less and not necessary. However, women prefer getting the title of Mrs. X, whereby X is their husband’s name. It feels proud for them to be identified and someone’s wife. I though wonder what men use to identify themselves are someone’s hubby.
Does it change anything when the names are changed? Would you prefer using your maiden names or your husband’s after marriage? Would you even change your national ID or Passport names? What is the essence here?
